Reduce or disable WordPress automatic posts revisions

Too many posts revisions per post can result in thousands of entries in your database. Having thousands of unnecessary entries like these will slow your database and will increase its size. Hence, it will affect your Wordpress site performance and will make saving backups a difficult task.

In order for you to solve this issue, you may consider reducing the number of generated revisions or you can even disable the automatic revisions function at once.

If you want to reduce the number of revisions autosaved by you WordPress just drop the following snippet in your wp-config.php file. The number of revisions specified in the snippet is 10, however, you can adjust it to your preferences.

PHP
// limit Wordpress post revisions to 10
define('WP_POST_REVISIONS', 10);

In case you prefer to disable your WordPress post revisions use the following snippet. Remember that you will need to insert it in the wp-config.php file of your WordPress website.

PHP
// Disable Wordpress post revisions
define('WP_POST_REVISIONS', false);
